Located just 110 km from the central town of Ulaangom and 1300 km from the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, Khyargas Lake is a breathtaking saltwater lake in the Great Lakes Depression. With a surface area of 1481 km² and an average depth of 50 m, the lake is a popular destination for migratory birds, especially on its eastern shore where the 5-7 km long underwater rock Khetsuu Khad can be found.
This rock, which sometimes sticks out of the water and looks like islands, is a favorite spot for photographers and local travelers. The lake and its surrounding area have been protected as a nature reserve since 2000.
