Khustai National Park
Located just 100 km from the bustling capital city of Ulaanbaatar, this national park spans over 50,000 hectares of rugged mountain steppe terrain, with more than half of its land dedicated to this unique ecosystem. Immerse yourself in the true essence of the mountain steppe by visiting Hustai National Park. The protected area was established in 1993, following the successful reintroduction of the wild horses, also known as Przewalski horses or Takhi in Mongolian, back to their natural habitat.
These wild horses are the last remaining ancestors of domestic horses and were once widespread throughout Mongolia before becoming extinct in the wild by the 1960s. The park is named after the Russian geographer, Nikolay Przhevalsky, who first discovered the wild horses in 1878.
